Is There A Way To Store Chalk Paint
Hey all!
When it comes to storing your beloved Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan (or generically- any paint you have) – this information from The Imperial Painted Lady™ should help you!
Since there are variables that come into play in regards to determining how long you can shop pigment- I will share that I accept paint cans that are 3.v years erstwhile and the paint is still perfectly fine in both color and consistency.
TIPS THAT Volition Help IN THE SHELF LIFE:
ane) the edges of the tin can MUST be cleaned off so no pigment is puddled in the reservoir.
Do this either by using your brush and cleaning out the circle. (fifty-fifty accept a paper towel and fold into a betoken and run that effectually it.)
OR

Boy- don't we demand a manicure! (did you encounter the postal service photo above?)
OR
Some people will have a nail and puncture a few holes direct downwards into the reservoir, so any accumulating paint – will drip dorsum into the quart.
These steps will preclude rusting, which sadly- we all know happens over time.
Also- yous won't get that crusty paint around the summit, which can autumn dorsum into the quart or onto your castor and then- the slice you are painting. No 1 likes crusty, unless we are sitting in Paris eating fresh broiled French bread!
2. the paint should exist stored in ambient temperature (This is suggested to be 55 – 85 degrees Fahrenheit) So- do not leave paint in the garage, work shed, or confronting an outside basement wall)
3. no tap water has been added to the paint in the tin.
If wanting to sparse your pigment- ideally – pour some paint into a dissever container- like a margarine container that has a lid. Mix your paint in that versus the quart if using only a partial.
* Thinning your pigment with a little water volition help achieve a smoother terminate – but no more 20% though.
* Outset with less water …and mix till you go a consistency that y'all desire. (call up- you tin ever add together more water, merely you only have and so much paint- so exist careful)
* Apply Distilled Water if adding directly to your quart and and so planning on storing would be the best situation – since at that place is no bacteria in Distilled H2o. And since distilled water is "pure water" and organisms cannot form from null….technically- if you use distilled water- there should exist NO introduction of bacteria at all into your pigment. (Reference this mail service if you are a science geek and want to read up more than on how this was proven)
iv. if the paint is going to be stored for awhile, information technology tin can help to lay a piece of plastic wrap on top of the remaining paint downward in the can. Literally sealing it at the surface, and then place the hat on tightly.
v. Employ a prophylactic mallet to close the lid- NOT a hammer.
6. We sell Pigment-EZE bottles which makes dispensing of pigment a breeze. Seriously- dump your quart into the Paint-EZE bottle and and then, literally squirt your pigment directly on to the surface you are painting and immediately spread with your paint castor. I love these bottles, only I do not like to store my paint in them for months and months. I find that the pigment coagulates slightly on the outer walls and then when I clasp the bottle, that stale pigment may flake dorsum into the bottle. Once again- these bottles are fantastic to work with for big projects- but when I am storing my paint for long lengths fourth dimension, I am totally onetime school and adopt leaving it in the quart. Now with that said- if interested in buying Paint-EZE bottles- click Here.
